Baileys’ Restaurants to debut new ghost kitchen concept this Thursday

‘Tis the season for ghosts…and ghost kitchens.

In simple terms, a ghost kitchen is a restaurant without seats, a narrow-focus pivot created to cater to the burgeoning food pickup and delivery business. Ghost kitchens tend to focus on a single, popular item. Recently, KC-style ribs, sandwiches, and other chicken wing riffs have launched out of kitchens in St. Louis, and a smashburger ghost kitchen is on the horizon.

Last month, Dave and Kara Bailey, owners of Baileys’ Restaurants, introduced Wing Ding Dong, a chicken-wing based ghost kitchen concept operating out of Baileys’ Range.

This Thursday, they plan to roll out a new concept: Playing Ketchup, which will feature all-beef “ripper” hot dogs and brats—specifically the Grant’s Farm brat from G&W Meat, prepared in Zwickel, onion, and seasoning.

The name was a snap for the Baileys. “Double entendres are the name of the game in ghost kitchens, apparently,” says Dave, adding

PAVE THE WAY

A floor treatment that’s more commonly seen in exterior spaces, crazy paving is the latest eye-catching surface to be reclaimed by interior designers and architects, and not only for its practical, hard-wearing properties. In this project by Studio Esteta, irregularly shaped slabs of slate inject subtle texture and movement – the perfect foil to the smooth swathes of oak and polished blue-grey stone above it – and lead the eye from the monolithic island to the matching marble-wrapped nook on the rear wall. studioesteta.com.au

How to Organize Your Kitchen

Even if you’re not big on home cooking, the kitchen is one of the most important places in your home to keep organized—especially if there are other people in the house. It’s inevitably a hub of activity, because our lives at home tend to revolve around eating. Says organizing expert of 13+ years, Rachel Rosenthal: “It’s not about pretty bins—it’s about saving time grabbing breakfast in the morning, cutting down on food waste, and aiding in accurate grocery shopping.”

The pictures on Pinterest and Instagram are always staged, she stresses, so it’s important not to get hung up on getting your own space to look just like the ultra-minimalist photos you see, and instead focus on what works for you and your family. Here, Rachel walks us through the best way to organize your kitchen, whether you’ve just moved into a new home, or want to take a fresh approach

Participating in community service is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Kitchen cabinets are costly. Don’t make them trendy

The latest colors and trends are tempting, but a kitchen should be timeless, says Barbara Miller, design director for the Neil Kelly design and remodeling company.

It’s expensive to remodel a kitchen, and cabinets can make up 30% of the costs, so make sure you or an owner five to 10 years in the future won’t think the look has gone out of style, she says.

A sure-fire solution: White cabinets.

Since Neil Kelly started remodeling homes in Portland in 1947, “we have never stopped selling white cabinets,” says Miller, referencing a statement made by owner Tom Kelly, whose father founded the company.

She says styles and hardware have changed, but white remains popular in the Pacific Northwest, as does wood-grain cabinets.

The easiest way to ensure a kitchen has a timeless feel is to match key elements with the architecture and era of the house: A Colonial Revival house

There’s more to kitchen organization than stowing items away behind closed cabinet doors, clearing the countertop of bulky appliances, or divvying up your utensils into little dividers. As much as we love magnetic knife racks, labeled spice jars, and lazy Susans, these products aren’t necessarily a guarantee that your kitchen will be hardworking.

If you really want to set your space up for success, you’ll have to look beyond the cupboards into all the nooks and crannies where clutter tends to gather: the pantry shelves, the back of the sink base cabinet, the corner of the island. Keeping this holistic view in mind, we gathered 12 ideas that make for a truly clutter-free kitchen.
