JAIPUR: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday directed officials to incorporate a provision for maintenance of roads constructed by the Public Works Department by a contractor for five years as against three years at present.
Gehlot was holding a review meeting of the PWD through video conference from the chief minister’s residence.
Gehlot said some roads do not need repairs for a long time while others get damaged quickly. Provision should be made to put the onus of maintaining quality on the contractor, he added.
He directed officials that there should not be any compromise with quality control in construction of roads. There is a provision for quality check of roads funded by World Bank and Asian Development Bank and National Highway Authority by independent engineers. Third party inspection of road construction should be done by implementing the same system to maintain the quality of roads constructed under Rural Infrastructure
