Ballots sent out to some Westmoreland voters after delay spurred by issues with contractor

After years of waiting, Larry Franklin was finally ready to cast his first vote for a United States president.

All that was stopping him from doing so was his ballot, which he had expected to receive this week in the mail. On Friday, it had yet to arrive.

Franklin, 67, of Monessen, along with dozens of others, came to the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Greensburg to cast their vote in person rather than rely on the mail to deliver ballots. Franklin said he wanted to ensure his vote would count ahead of a trip next week to Africa, where he’ll spend the next several months visiting his daughter.

“I don’t know why we don’t have ballots already,” Franklin said.

Franklin’s ballot and nearly 60,000 others were to have

Luzerne County Manager David Pedri said in a statement that after he had found out that the worker had discarded the ballots, he had all garbage secured and searched by agents from the FBI, the district attorney’s office, and the Pennsylvania State Police. “All items of concern were taken into custody by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.”

Pedri said that staff at the elections office was “unaware for whom the ballots” were cast until the Department of Justice announced their investigation into the matter.

The Office of the U.S. Attorney and the FBI’s Scranton Resident Office announced that staff had recovered nine “discarded” military ballots, seven of which were cast for President Trump. The content of

Temporary contractor ‘threw Trump ballots in the trash’ Pennsylvania county officials

A temporary contractor in the battleground state of Pennsylvania mistakenly threw mail-in ballots for President Donald Trump in the trash, county officials revealed.

A top federal prosecutor announced on Thursday that his office had launched an investigation into a small number of discarded mail-in ballots cast in the upcoming 2020 U.S. presidential election.

The incident drew the attention of Trump who claimed it as proof that mail-in voting can not be trusted and was susceptible to fraud.

Luzerne County Elections Bureau claimed it stemmed from an administrative error and that county officials had not known who the votes were cast for until it was disclosed by the Justice Department earlier this week.

Temporary contractor threw Trump mail-in ballots in county trash, Pennsylvania officials say

An incident regarding “a small number” of discarded mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania — which has sparked a Department of Justice investigation and drawn the attention of President Donald Trump — appears to be rooted in an administrative error by a temporary contractor working at the Luzerne County Elections Bureau, according to the county manager.

He also said county officials did not know which candidate was selected on the ballots until the Justice Department publicly disclosed the information earlier this week.

Luzerne County Manager C. David Pedri said in a statement issued Friday that a temporary independent contractor who was assigned to sort mail at the elections bureau “incorrectly discarded into the office trash UMOVA ballots,” which is an acronym for ballots from military and overseas voters. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Pennsylvania said on Thursday that nine ballots had been found in a dumpster next to
